| Natural Paua Shell Inlaid in Sterling Silver |
|
An underlying theme of my design, is to let the paua speak. Each piece of shell is different, giving each piece of jewellery it's own character. My design intention is for the beholder to have their own ideas about what they see in the paua pattern and in the piece. So feel free to disregard my ideas about a design, and let each piece speak to each individual. Ray Fransham, Designer |

" Seeds of Life"
Designed to be beautiful. A piece on which many meanings could be placed. It is the Maori tradition that the symbology of a piece of art is used as a nemonic or aid to memory for the appropriate story.
The 4 koru could represent potential children or actual children or mokopuna. They could represent a more general vitality and springing forth of life. It's up to you.

" Rei-Matau"
The tradition of wearing a fish-hook or matau as a pendant, is in memory of Maui, the legendary superhero, fishing up the North Island of NZ. The Maori name for the North Island is Te Ika a Maui - The Fish of Maui. The significance of this legend led to a tradition of creating non-functional fish-hooks as abstract works of art, many of which cab be found in our museums. This original hook design is my contribution to continuing this unique New Zealand art form.
